Troubleshooting the Kwikset 910 Smart Door Lock

If this error occurs on a newly installed device, it is usually an indication that the Z-Wave device is too far from the panel to maintain a signal or the device is bad.

Determine if a signal extender may be your best option. Most Z-Wave devices that plug into a power outlet can be used to relay a Z-Wave signal.

You can test if this will resolve the issue by bringing Z-Wave Device closer to the panel, if possible.

If the issue persists call Indiana Alarm at 317-399-5748 to complete a network rediscovery.

Survey the areas between the device and the rest of the network. If newly added devices have been placed near or between the network connections, there is a potential for signal interference.

To test for signal interference, remove any newly added devices or turn them off temporarily, and see if this resolves the error.

If the error occurs on a device that has been installed for more than 6 months, it may be that the batteries are too low to maintain a signal.

Below are some common troubleshooting tips for the Kwikset 910 smart door lock. If you experience persistent communication issues, it is recommended that you delete the device from the Z-Wave network and re-enroll it.

  •  Ensure the device is powered by a wall outlet or high-quality batteries with sufficient charge.
  •  The Kwikset 910’s communication range is 25 feet. If the panel is too far away, an outlet-powered Z-Wave device can act as a bridge.
  •  Power cycle the system if the problem persists by removing power from the device and waiting 2 minutes before returning power. Then, try again to enroll the device.
  • •If all of the above does not correct the issue, a factory reset may be required.
  1. Remove the battery pack from the lock.
  2. Reinsert the battery pack while holding the Program button on the lock.
  3. Continue holding the Program button for 30 seconds until the lock beeps and the status LED begins to flash red.
  4. After a few seconds, the door will initiate the handing sequence to signal a successful reset.
  5. If the problem persists, verify that remote commands can be sent to other Z-Wave devices in the network.
    1. Place the Z-Wave controller into Delete mode.
    2. Press the A button on the lock one time.
